bbm-2.0

BlackBerry Messenger is no longer exclusive to the company’s own devices. It is available for rival platforms like iOS, Android and Windows Phone. However some BBM features start off by being exclusive to BlackBerry smartphones. One of those features is now being expanded to the iOS and Android apps. BBM Protected is available for both popular mobile platforms..

Launched not too long ago BBM Protected provides enterprise-grade security for instant messaging while retaining all of the features that users might expect from a consumer IM app.

BBM Protected encrypts all messages with keys that are generated by the communicating mobile devices themselves. BlackBerry explains that this is instrumental is preventing “man in the middle” attacks and thus it provides greater security than competing services.

This feature is geared towards business users who once exclusively relied on BlackBerry hardware and software. While that’s not the case anymore BlackBerry seeks to retain those customers by offering them software products more suited to their needs. BBM Protected is one of those products.

Interested enterprise customers can take advantage of BBM Protected> It’s an extra subscription service that’s available through BlackBerry Enterprise Server. A 30-day free trial is offered before the subscription plan begins. iOS 6 and above, Android 4.0 and above are required for BBM Protected.
