fairphoneFairphone of the Netherlands has the vision and dream to deliver ethically sourced, long-lasting smartphones, targeting environmentally conscious consumers. Hmmm, this is definitely not something that you would hear of in the smartphone industry, but perhaps more in the coffee and clothing industry, as well as the organic food movement. Well, there is a decent market for it, considering how Fairphone has successfully sold all 60 thousand units of the first-generation Fairphone that you can see above. It seems that this success has spurred them on to launch a second model.

At least the second generation Fairphone would be able to put to good use all of the experience that they have garnered in their maiden outing, and Fairphone has hopes to increase the level of its transparency as well as use of conflict-free materials – simply by moving the design in-house, for example.

This move would enable Fairphone to gain a greater level of control over the kind of manufacturer that they would like to use when it comes to constructing the handset, as well as providing Fairphone with more input over the place where it sources its supplies and components from. Pretty neat idea, no? It seems that this summer might see the release of the second generation Fairphone.
