Motorola was one of the first few OEMs to quickly release the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon after Google rolled it out late last year. Even carrier branded versions of some of its recent models received the update well before their rivals. Those who owned the first-generation Moto X, which came out in 2013, have still been waiting for the update though. There is good news for them, Motorola has started the soak test for original Moto X’s Lollipop update.

The soak test comes over five months after Google first released Android 5.0 Lollipop so clearly users have had to wait for quite some time.

Obviously they won’t immediately be getting the update. Soak tests are basically beta tests for a new firmware. Motorola is going to seed the update to selected users who will first try it out before the company releases it for everybody.

Lucinao Carvalho, a Motorola employee, confirmed on Google+ that the test is underway. Carvalho also clarified that this update is based on Android 5.0.2 and not the recently released Android 5.1. It is likely that the unlocked GSM edition of this device will receive the update first before it arrives for carrier branded devices.

It may take a few weeks for the soak test to be finished. Only then Motorola will release the update. So there is still a fair bit of waiting left to do.
