flasherThe flash units on our smartphones are only okay if you don’t mind your phones having very harsh lighting or if you want to use it as a torchlight. However if you’re hoping to truly take advantage of flash photography in a more professional manner, you’d probably have to turn to third-party accessories to which there are plenty of options available at the moment.

That being said if you’re after more alternatives or if the ones available aren’t to your liking, you might be interested in a Kickstarter project for a device called the Flasher. Yes, the name does sound a bit dodgy but it also aptly describes what the accessory can do – flash your subjects for you. The Flasher features 21 LEDs housed in a body that will connect to your phone or tablet’s headphone port.

Users will be able to swap between two levels of intensity and interestingly enough, there is no accompanying app meaning that you can go ahead and start using it right out of the box. It will come with a built-in 350mAh battery that according to its creators, is good for about 60-80 minutes of usage and can be recharged via a micro USB cable.

It is also pretty affordable as customers will just need to pledge $15 to its Kickstarter project to secure a unit for themselves upon its successful funding and production. If this sounds like an accessory you’d like to back, head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.
