Some Apple rumors have been around for so long that they haven’t turned out to be true and yet they are rehashed for almost every new product that the company is expected to announce. It has been rumored time and again that Apple will shift towards IGZO displays for its iPads but the company hasn’t done that yet. It is now rumored that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is going to tout the IGZO display technology.

The rumor comes from Taiwanese trade publication DigiTimes, which has a hit or miss track record, so it goes without saying that you should take this with a grain of salt.

It is claimed that Apple has opted for IGZO displays for the iPad Pro because they allow fast response times and high image quality while being power efficient.

The company has reportedly received samples from Sharp, a company known for its IGZO panels, as well as from LG Display and Samsung Display. Sharp is expected to be picked as the primary supplier for these panels though Apple might go with a secondary supplier to ensure that production remains uninterrupted.

Mass production of IGZO display panels for Apple’s 12.9-inch tablet is expected to begin in July. A recent report suggests that Apple’s new tablet isn’t going to hit the production line until at least the third quarter of this year.
