iphone-thievesJust how low can humanity sink to just to obtain something that does not belong to them? While there are many smartphone thefts that occur each day, not all of them end this badly for the handset’s victim. Over in the UK, just a wee bit outside of Newcastle lies South Shields. That was the place where a 22-year old man was robbed of his iPhone 4, with two other men being the culprits, as the 22-year old man lay unconscious in the street, as he died of hypothermia later on in the night.

It seems as though the two thieves stumbled upon the unconscious man on the street, saw an opportunity to profit from his misery by taking his iPhone 4 from the pocket, without doing anything to ensure that the unconscious man received adequate medical attention.

The 19-year-old defendant did make an admission to the theft at the South Tyneside Magistrates Court earlier this month, whereas the other 25-year-old defendant admitted to handling stolen goods. Sentencing will be done this April 13th at the Newcastle Crown Court. One does wonder what is happening to society these days, and turning on the TV or reading the paper makes things more depressing with the deluge of bad news overcoming the small number of good or uplifting news.
