nasa-flying-saucerIt was last week that we received word that details to the NASA asteroid redirect mission were revealed. This time around, it will not be something in the same vein, but rather, NASA intends to livestream the ‘flying saucer’ Mars lander test, which should set more than just a few tongues wagging, that is for sure.

NASA is currently working on the preparations required to conduct the second test flight of its Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD), which has also been nicknamed as NASA’s “flying saucer” by others. This particular craft has been specially designed in order to deliver mission payloads to the surface of Mars, and it will do so without having to go through all the risky rocket-powered sky crane maneuvers which were part and parcel of the Curiosity rover landing.

NASA’s JPL Ustream channel is set to deliver the livestream, although it seems that not all things have proceeded according to plan as NASA has pushed the test back by a few hours. Hence, those who are interested will have to hold their proverbial horses for a little while more, as the livestream is said to kick in some time at 11:30-12:30 PM PDT, which ain’t too far off away, actually.
