Legacy networks are gradually getting in the business of online streaming. Given that NBC partly owns Hulu the network has been at it for quite some time now. According to a latest report it is now putting together a subscription video streaming service that will only provide comedy content, the highlight being latest episodes of Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show, which will be immediately available for streaming on the service.
NBC already allows anyone and everyone to watch these shows for free over the air if they have an antenna but according to the report by The Wall Street Journal, NBC is looking to invest in new original shows for this service, apart from creating snippets that showcase some of its biggest stars like Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and actors that appear in a host of NBC shows.
Pricing is expected to be around $2.50 to $3.50 per month, it won’t be that much so folks who follow these programs can see value in the new service, it might even be brought over as an add-on for Sling TV subscribers.
According to the report NBC has considered launching similar streaming video services for other genres as well but the one for comedy has made more sense for the others, so apparently its going with this, though it is unclear right now when NBC might make this new service live.
