Home automation seems to be the way of the future and as it stands, there are plenty of devices out there that can help get you started, like the Belkin WeMo, Philips Hue lightbulbs, and more, but safe to say that these devices do not come cheap and trying to automate your entire house could end up costing you a small fortune.

However this is where the Nyrius smart outlet comes in – this is a device currently seeking funding on Kickstarter that aims to make home automation more affordable for the masses. That is one of its goals along making home automation easy to setup and use as we reckon that it could get a little bit complicated for the first-time user.

So how does the Nyrius smart outlet work? Basically users just need to plug it into any normal power outlet, and from there users can plug in any regular appliance to it (in essence we guess this works similar to the Belkin WeMo). Thanks to the Nyrius’ wireless connectivity, you will be able to control all sorts of appliances remotely, even really old ones as long as it is connected to the smart outlet.

Users will be able to create schedules for when things should turn on or off and you can even set up proximity control. This allows the Nyrius to detect when no one is in the room and will turn appliances off, thus cutting down on your electricity bills. The company is currently trying to raise funds on Kickstarter and a pledge of $40 will nab you one outlet, but the more you buy the cheaper it gets.
