It looks like Sony’s PlayStation Portable handheld console might find itself squeezed out of the mobile entertainment device market in due time, especially when one takes into consideration the number of various smartphones that have gotten more and more powerful, so much so that gaming on a dedicated handheld console might be deemed to be outdated in due time. Still, that day, should it happen, would most probably be still a couple of life cycles away which is why one might want to tinker around with a PSP and have it run on a user interface that resembles that of Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is all for good, clean fun, as you can tell.

Developer Joel16 is the one behind this particular custom firmware for the PlayStation Portable, where it would borrow a whole lot of ideas and is heavily inspired by Google’s Material Design for Android 5.0 Lollipop. The software itself happens to be a kind of app launcher which actually provides you with a home screen, an app drawer, a lockscreen, a notification slider, quick settings toggles, among others. Heck, it will even come with a file manager and text editor, now how about that?

Do bear in mind that this particular build is far from being stable enough for normal use, but at least it goes to show how much more versatile your PSP can be in the long run.
