It was rumored last month that a new Rock Band title is in the pipeline. The last major release for this franchise was back in 2012 so one can’t deny that the time is ripe for a new iteration. For those who are unaware Rock Band is a popular game series which lets players get their jam on to recorded music. Word on the street was that the new title will be compatible with next-generation consoles. Today Rock Band 4 has officially been confirmed for both PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

Developer Harmonix announced today that this title will be released by the end of 2015. It is working with Mad Catz on this project with the aim to launch Rock Band 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by the end of this year.

Harmonix has also said that it plans on making this title backwards compatible with every guitar and drum set released for Rock Back since 2007. This will be a good move on the developer’s part as players will be able to use their plastic instruments that have been lying around for so many years once again.

It will work with Mad Catz on new instruments as well. Harmonix may also allow players to carry over all of their old DLC songs as well but a confirmation has not yet been made.

The developer doesn’t say how much the title will cost when it is released later this year.
