rockband-4-ps4-xbox-oneWe’re sure many gamers had thought that music-based games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band were past their prime and doomed to eventually phase out. However interestingly enough, it wasn’t too long ago that Harmonix announced that they would be releasing a new Rock Band game in the form of Rock Band 4.

It was also announced that there would be new instruments being made for the game and before you get too excited, here’s some bad news. In a report by EDGE magazine, it has been revealed that despite the introduction of new instruments, the features of these instruments will remain the same as their predecessor which probably means that there might not necessarily be any new radical moves or features in the game that would require new hardware.

If you still have your old instruments from the previous Rock Band titles, you will be pleased to learn that Rock Band 4 will be backwards compatible with your old instruments so you can go ahead and save some money there, although Rock Band 3’s Keytar will be the exception to this as the game will focus mainly on the guitar, bass, drums, and vocals.

In fact the design of the instruments are expected to be kept somewhat similar as well. According to EDGE, “The unnecessary proliferation of expensive peripherals helped kill off the music genre, after all and launching with a shiny new range of essential fake instruments would be in conflict with Harmonix’s current beliefs.”
