xperia-j1-compactThere is always some memorable in turning up first, although if you were the first person to fail all of your subjects in class would definitely not be something that you would be proud of down the road. Having said that, Sony has just announced that they will offer their first SIM-free handset in Japan, calling it the Sony Xperia J1 Compact.

The Sony Xperia J1 Compact will also be known as the D5788 where its model number is concerned, and this unlocked handset would share some very close specifications to that of the Xperia A2 that is available via NTT DoCoMo.

Among the hardware specifications of the Sony Xperia J1 Compact include a 4.3″ 720p display, a 20.7MP Exmor RS camera and a 2,300mAh battery, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.2GHz quad-core CPU, accompanied by Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB RAM. The handset itself will be IP68-certified for that added touch of durability. Sony looks set to roll out the handset this coming April 20th in a white and champagne color combination, with pre-orders kicking off from March 27 onward. Any takers for the first SIM-free handset over in the Land of the Rising Sun? [Press Release]
