xperia-t2-ultraEarlier this month Sony confirmed that only their Xperia Z lineup of smartphones would be eligible to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, meaning that if you had any other Xperia handset, you’d be stuck with the latest update for that phone which hopefully is at least Android 4.4 KitKat.

That being said the folks at Xperia Blog have recently come across some evidence which suggests that the Xperia T2 Ultra could be getting its Android 5.0 update. This is according to a recent update on the Bluetooth SIG website in which it listed the handset as having been certified to update to “L” which was Google’s codename for Lollipop back then.

Now it could be that the handset might be certified to receive its update, meaning that Sony could release the Android 5.0 update if they choose to, however whether or not they do remains to be seen. After all Sony was rather adamant about giving only its Xperia Z lineup the Android 5.0 update.

However earlier this month screenshots surfaced which showed the Sony Xperia C3 running on the Lollipop update. This led to speculation that Sony might be thinking about bringing the update onto other handsets after many customers expressed their dissatisfaction. It could have also been an old screenshot in which Sony was testing the update and maybe found that it was not optimal. Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
