Earlier this year Sony announced a partnership with Spotify in which the service, dubbed PlayStation Music, would be launched come 29th of March which means that it should already be available on your console. The app is reported to have automatically download onto your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 console so you should able to see it when you boot it up.
The good news is that gamers who wish to use the service will not have to subscribe to Spotify’s Premium service or have PS Plus subscription. All gamers need is their console and they will be able to access it for free. However the free version also means that the audio quality will not be as good compared to Spotify Premium and users will be subject to ads that are played in between songs.
Users can obviously opt to pay for the Premium subscription if they want higher quality audio and the removal of ads, but if you’re not too fussy then we reckon this shouldn’t be an issue. The UI of PlayStation Music has also been designed to more visual than textual, compared to Spotify on the desktop, and is aimed at gamers who like having music in the background while chatting with friends or playing games.
Music you’ve chosen will replace the soundtrack to the game, but ambient sounds and dialogue will not be muted and will still play over your chosen song. PlayStation Music will also work with Spotify Connect so gamers can control their music via their mobile device or continue playing what they’re playing on their phones on their console.
