Carriers usually allow their customers to purchase insurance for their devices within thirty days of purchase. Customers who drag their feet on whether or not they want to spend more money just to be covered in the future might miss the thirty day deadline and then they’re unable to go with the insurance plan. Seeing AT&T kick off this promotion first, Sprint has now stepped in the ring as well, and throughout the month of March it will allow existing subscribers to enroll for its device insurance plan.

During the month of March customers who opted out of the Sprint Total Equipment Protection plan at the time of purchase have a second chance to enroll. The plan covers wireless phones, smartphones and Sprint mobile broadband cards.

It costs $9 to $13 per month, per line and depends upon device model, providing customers with comprehensive coverage that includes protection from loss, accidental damage, theft, device malfunction and “threats to private data.”

Sprint says that in order to take advantage of this month-long promotion customers must ensure that their devices are in working order and are not in need of repair.

To enroll interested customers can visit Sprint’s Total Equipment Protection page or walk into any of the carrier’s stores.
