tag heuer carreraYesterday we reported that it was hinted that TAG Heuer could announce a partnership with Intel and as it turns out they did. Alongside that announcement, they also revealed that they would be working with Google who would be providing them with Android Wear, the smartwatch platform that their wearable would be powered by.

As mentioned yesterday, TAG Heuer’s smartwatch is said to be based on the design of the TAG Heuer Carrera which was also confirmed in today’s announcement. In fact it also seems that development of the watch is pretty far down the road as the company’s CEO said that both features and pricing for the wearable have already been confirmed, but obviously will not be revealed until a later date.

Considering that the regular TAG Heuer Carrera is priced at a few thousand, chances are we could be looking at a similar price tag for the smartwatch version of it, or maybe a bit more considering its more hi-tech features. The CEO also said that they are targeting a release towards the end of the year and we could be looking at anywhere between October to December, so safe to say we still have quite a fair bit of waiting to do.

It will be interesting to see how TAG Heuer’s smartwatch will hold up against the competition given that it will be priced significantly higher than most smartwatches. It will also be interesting to see if it will be able to appeal to traditionalists.
