twitter videoCould autoplaying a video result in the user actually watching it? That’s the question Twitter is trying to answer as the company has recently begun testing the autoplaying of videos in its feed for users on iOS devices. This was confirmed by a Twitter spokesperson who said, “We’re running a small test on a few variations on the video playback experience.”

At the moment the autoplaying of videos will only apply to Promoted Video ads, videos uploaded by users via its mobile app, and videos part of Twitter’s Amplify program. Videos uploaded onto Vine, which is owned by Twitter, will be excluded from this test. The experiment by Twitter is two-pronged. One is that users will see videos play in full automatically and will loop until paused.

The other is where a 6-second autoplay will keep looping to act as a teaser for the video in hopes that it will entice users to watch the whole thing. Autoplaying of videos on social networks isn’t exactly new. In fact social networks like Facebook and Instagram have introduced that feature on their websites and apps.

Twitter at one point had even debated whether they should implement the feature and we guess that they have decided to, albeit as an experiment for now. How do you guys feel about it? Does autoplaying videos make you want to watch the rest of it, or does it do the opposite and make you scroll past it even faster?
