utorrent-mininguTorrent, certainly one of the more popular BitTorrent clients out there, has fallen out of favor with the masses, as users claim that they tried to earn a quick buck through the installation of cryptocurrency mining on users’ computers – all without their knowledge, of course. This allegation leveled at uTorrent mentioned that cryptocurrency software from Epic Scale was installed with uTorrent version 3.4.2 build 28913.

After installation, it claims that Epic Scale would make use of some of the computer’s spare processing power in order to generate cryptocurrency on behalf of uTorrent – examples include Bitcoin or Litecoin. Needless to say, uTorrent needed a response – and fast!

There was a uTorrent manager who confirmed that parent company BitTorrent has a partnership with Epic Scale, citing that this software not only generates revenue for uTorrent, but it also contributes some of the revenue to charity. Part of the statement included, “In the future, Epic Scale plans to contribute CPU cycles to other initiatives, such as Genome mapping and other academic studies that require a great deal of processing power.”

It must be noted that this manager has denied accusations of EpicScale being installed without prior user permission, and have been unable to reproduce such a scenario as mentioned by users.
