Last month it was announced by Blizzard that they would be releasing their Warcraft 3 models and assets to StarCraft 2 modders. What this meant is that modders could build maps and mods using Warcraft 3 models, and in the case of a team of modders, what they have done is recreated Warcraft 3 using the StarCraft 2 editor.

Dubbed Warcraft: Armies of Azeroth, this is a mod that looks very much like Warcraft 3, however if you were to take a closer look at the game, you will realize that the graphics are much more polished and less angular, at least compared to the original Warcraft 3. For those looking to relive their Warcraft 3 days with better graphics, this might be it.

That being said the mod is also probably the closest thing we’ll get to seeing Warcraft 4. Last year Blizzard revealed that the company was still interested in creating a Warcraft 4 but unfortunately did not have anything to show just yet. Considering that the World of Warcraft and Hearthstone franchise relies heavily on the Warcraft universe, we reckon Blizzard will need to find a way to ensure that there are no clashes and contradictions in the storyline.

The mod has yet to be released to the public but for those interested in following its progress can do so by heading on over to its website. In the meantime you can check out the video above to get an idea of what to expect.
