AmberAlerts1Waze is a great app if you’re planning a trip or if you’re looking for the shortest route home. It’s also great if you’re trying to avoid roadblocks which while unappreciated by law enforcement officials, are submitted by users looking to help out other Waze users. Speaking of community, Waze has recently been updated with integrated AMBER alerts.

For those unfamiliar, AMBER alerts are usually broadcasted in the event that a child goes missing. According to Waze, “The AMBER alert program is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies and the wireless industry that aims to galvanize communities in the search for and the safe recovery of missing children.”

These alerts, according to Waze, will be scanned for every 10 minutes and will be displayed to Wazers when their vehicles have stopped for 10 seconds or more. This is prevent alerts from being displayed while driving which can be distracting. The alerts will also only appear once per week per individual alert to prevent it from being too spammy.

Hopefully given how much the Waze community has given to each other, the integration of AMBER alerts will go towards helping more drivers be more aware of children that might be missing, and also help in their recovery should they come across any signs or evidence as well.
