Popular Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is expanding to Europe. Currently the company sells its devices in China and other emerging markets in Asia. It has done very well for itself in the region. At Mobile World Congress 2015 Xiaomi global vice president Hugo Barra revealed that the company is expanding to Europe. Though instead of selling smartphones Xiaomi is going to start off in the West by selling accessories.

The company is going to launch a Mi.com store in Europe through which it is going to start selling accessories. Products on offer will include power banks, earphones, headphones and its wearable devices like the Mi Band fitness tracker which only costs $13. Perhaps it may even offer its $64 Yi GoPro Hero rival.

Xiaomi is looking to replicate this in the United States as well. It will launch a similar online store in the country through which customers will be able to purchase accessories.

Obviously the longterm goal here is to lay down a solid foundation for Xiaomi’s presence in the West before the company decides to bring its smartphones to this part of the world.

Right now the company won’t provide a timeline for when its smartphones could arrive in the West. It is keeping that part of the business limited to emerging markets in Asia for now.
