facebook logoFacebook can be accessed either at your computer through its website, or on your phone where users can access it either via the official Facebook app or through its mobile website, with the former offering up a more optimized experience. However despite Facebook being offered on both platforms, it turns out that the social network’s ad revenue is the highest on mobile.

A report from Re/code has revealed that the majority of Facebook’s ad revenue comes from mobile, more than 70% actually. This is the highest such percentage that Facebook has ever announced and while that’s a pretty impressive figure, it seems that Facebook was still shy of the revenue estimates made by Wall Street which were 40 cents per share on $3.56 billion in revenue for the quarter.

Instead Facebook managed to pull 42 cents per share on $3.54 billion which is actually pretty close. However according to Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg, it seems that the exchange rates are to blame, and that without the exchange rates changing, Facebook’s ad revenue would be up 55% instead of 46%, thus increasing the company’s overall revenue.

Sandberg also addressed the idea of monetizing WhatsApp, something that Facebook hasn’t done (apart from the annual subscription). “We’re thrilled with their growth [but] we are not currently working on monetization for WhatsApp. We’re continuing to work on growth.” WhatsApp recently announced that they have managed to hit the 800 million monthly active users mark.
