What is the difference between a doughnut and the rest of us? Well unless you’re an astronaut, the difference is that this particular doughnut has actually made it into space, something that most of us have yet to experience and probably will not experience anytime soon. The doughnut’s space flight was courtesy of a hobbyist group called Stratolys.

To be fair the doughnut did not exactly make it into space per se, but rather 20 miles above the Earth’s surface which is still pretty impressive all the same. The pastry’s journey started in Norway and it took about 84 minutes for it to reach its destination, with the entire journey including its equipment which consisted of helium and cameras costing around $1,100. Talk about expensive delivery!

The doughnut eventually made its way back to Earth where it dropped into a lake and was later recovered. Unfortunately the doughnut did not survive its descent back to Earth, largely in part due to its soaking in the lake. Now one might think that the remnants should be thrown away, but according to Stratolys member Alexander Jönsson, he decided to keep its remains.

In any case if you’d like to see what 20 minutes above the surface of Earth looks like from the perspective of a pink glazed doughnut with sprinkles looks like, then be sure to check out the video above.
