Next month Amazon is going to kick off a new pilot program which will deliver packages directly to the trunk of your car, understandably there is a caveat. The pilot program is limited to Munich, Germany and for this purpose Amazon has partnered up with DHL and Audi. Under this program packages will be delivered directly to select Amazon Prime members in Munich who happen to own an Audi.

The way this will work is that the delivery agent from DHL will get one-time keyless access to the trunk of the Audi when it’s time for the package to be delivered. Audi says this won’t cause insurance issues since the delivery agent will not be able to access any other part of the car.

One has to say that this is a novel idea. It would eliminate the need to worry about being at home when you have a package on the way.

Customers won’t need to stress about that because they can simply have the package delivered to their car where it will be placed in the trunk for them.

Amazon may also do this for returns, allowing the customer to put the package in the trunk and using the same one-time keyless access the shipping company’s agent will pick it up.

Even though this program is limited to customers in Munich, Amazon has said in a statement that it has a long term plan to make this available for all Prime members in all markets that it serves.
