HTC and Motorola are considered to be among the very few OEMs that are quick to release major new software updates at least for their high-end handsets. The HTC One M8 is just over a year old now but it still fits in that category despite the fact that the One M9 has been out for a couple of months now. It appears though that Android 5.1 for HTC One M8 might not be released before August 2015.

It’s unclear why HTC will be so uncharacteristically slow in releasing this update for last year’s flagship smartphone, but the word comes from HTC UK’s official Twitter account. It merits mentioning here that Android 5.1 has already been released for One M8 Google Play Edition.

The account was asked about the Android 5.1 update and received a reply which revealed that Android 5.1 with Sense 7.0 UI is not going to arrive on the HTC One M8 until August 2015.

Moreover it was also revealed that nothing has been confirmed as yet with regards to the HTC One M7. That particular device is well over two years old so it really won’t be surprising if it’s not updated to Android 5.1, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

The possibility exists though that HTC might change its mind and bring the release timeframe forward, but all we can do about that right now is keep our fingers crossed.
