spockEmojis are fun and a great way to express ourselves in ways words can’t. After all they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Now the good news for Star Trek fans, especially those who are fans of Spock, is that the folks over at Quartz have discovered a Spock-inspired emoji in test versions of iOS and OS X.

The emoji in question is the hand sign that Spock gives when he says, “Live long and prosper”. Now we should note that the Vulcan Salute was actually introduced to the Unicode system last year in June, which means that it was basically up to any software-maker to decide if that was something they wanted to include in their software.

In the case of Apple, the appearance of the emoji in their iOS and OS X test versions certainly does point towards that happening, although to be honest there’s really no telling when Apple will introduce it into their systems. However their timing does seem pretty apt as Leonard Nimoy, the actor who portrayed Spock in early Star Trek TV shows and films, passed away early this year making this emoji a perfect tribute to the man and the character.

Speaking of emojis, Apple is also expected to introduce more diverse emojis which will depict more races, so perhaps the Spock-inspired emoji will be arriving along with that update.
