iPhone_6C_005There have been rumors that Apple could release a 4-inch iPhone later this year, which some have dubbed it as the iPhone 6c which could be sold at a lower price, thus allowing Apple to compete with some of the mid-range Android handsets out there. It does seem odd that Apple would go back to the 4-inch form factor, but those rumors have surfaced again.

This is according to a report from DigiTimes who claims that their sources have informed them that AU Optronics (AUO) has received orders from Apple and will supply the Cupertino company with 4-inch iPhone display panels which will presumably be used for the iPhone 6c, or whatever Apple plans on naming the handset.

AUO is a supplier that Apple has worked with in the past so to hear that they could be working with Apple again hardly comes as a surprise. The company, unsurprisingly, has declined to comment on the rumor. In addition to the 4-inch panels, AUO is also expected to help supply 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch panels which will presumably be used for Apple’s flagship handsets.

Like we said it’s odd that Apple would return to the 4-inch model, especially when you consider that both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have sold extremely well. Not to mention “cheaper” handsets like the iPhone 5c proved to be something of a flop. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you think? Does it make sense for Apple to release a smaller device?
