The Monster Hunter franchise is a very popular one, especially amongst handheld console gamers who have spent countless hours playing with their friends and farming for materials to help create a variety of different armorsets. Now for the most part, Monster Hunter looks like your typical RPG, but it looks like Capcom wants to switch things up a bit.

The company has recently announced a new Monster Hunter title called Monster Hunter Stories, and instead of it being serious-like 3D RPG game, it seems that this particular Monster Hunter title will be more cartoonish. In fact based on the trailer we have to say that it looks a lot like an anime and to a certain extent we are reminded of Pokemon which isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.

It also appears to shake up the dynamics of the Monster Hunter franchise as well. Instead of the player playing as a hunter, they will be playing as a rider where the story will focus on the rider and their monsters. According to the game’s producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, “While staying true to the world of Monster Hunter, and a story that can only be told through an RPG, we’d like to pack it with fun and enjoyment that we can’t even begin to describe with words.”

The game has been pegged for a release in Japan come 2016 and will be arriving for the Nintendo 3DS, but no word on whether it will be localized and find its way stateside. In the meantime you can check out the trailer in the video above.
