There is no stopping one who has passion and a tenacity to see things done – or created, in this particular case. If you were awed (like many others) by the BB-8 rolling droid that is set to endear itself to untold millions when Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens hits the cinemas, here is one guy who decided to take things further – by constructing his very own BB-8 rolling droid from scratch, and as you can see in the video above, this is not a mere pipe dream, but it is actually a droid that works!

The amount of monetary outlay required to create this BB-8 droid would be $150 thereabouts, now how about that for affordability? Industrial designer Christian Poulsen decided to change a standard issue version 1.0 Sphero robotic rolling toy by transforming it into a fully functional BB-8, where it is capable of rolling around the floors in his abode.

The Sphero would need to be cut in half beforehand, and even that had to be performed carefully so as not to cut through the circuitry, so a steady hand is required. The head will need to be fabricated personally, where a 3D printer would certainly come in handy to up the realism factor here.
