The last we heard from DJI with regards to their Phantom drones was the Phantom 2 Vision+, but if you’re in the market for a new drone with upgraded hardware, then you might be interested to learn that DJI has taken the wraps off their latest drone in the form of the Phantom 3 which has the ability to stream footage taken with the drone live onto YouTube.

There will be two models of the Phantom 3 that customers can choose from – the Professional and the Advanced that will be priced at $1,250 and $999 respectively and are expected to begin shipping to customers in the next few weeks. Designwise it does not appear that DJI has made any major changes except for some color accents here and there.

However in terms of hardware upgrades, DJI has given the Phantom 3 a downward-facing camera that helps give the drone a visual positioning system, thus negating the need for a GPS signal which comes in handy when used indoors. The drone’s positioning system has also been updated to work with GLONASS, and will also come bundled with the Lightbridge system that was previously a $1,400 add-on.

The Professional model will also get a 4K camera while the Advanced will get a 1080p Full HD model. The cameras also come with larger sensors and will have a flatter field of view. The accompanying smartphone app has also received an update and will now come with a flight simulator, allowing users to practice their maneuvers before taking it out into the real world.
