Valve’s MOBA DotA 2 is played from a top down perspective where players control their hero and will also be able to scroll through the map and observe different parts of it at the same time. However we’re sure given the nature of DotA 2, many are wondering how different it would be if DotA was created as a first-person shooter.

Well wonder no more because a modder by the name of BMD remade DotA 2 and turned it into a first-person shooter. Now we should note that the mod is pretty barebones and BMD has done away with items and creeps. Basically instead of DotA 2 being a very strategic team-based game, this mod turns it into a fast-paced first-person shooter using DotA 2 characters.

We have to admit that it looks incredibly fun and is a very unique take on the game. According to BMD, he had to made some pretty serious modifications to the game in order to get it to work. “I created my own system of motion that allows me do to [sic] things like have characters jump and strafe, and turn at an infinite rate.”

He also had to modify the camera controls to get it to look like a first-person shooter. “The camera controls are extremely hacked-in (but functional), and you can probably see in the video that each player has to select a flying enigma unit at the start which I detect and then use as the object to point the camera at. There is no facility currently available for me to manually reposition the camera except by locking the camera to the created “camera” unit, which results in some unfortunate limitations.”

All in all it’s a pretty cool idea and you can check it out for yourself in the video above. BMD has yet to release the mod or the source code but he plans on doing so soon.
