Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. It is rather fortunate that the eMotionButterflies drone from Festo (the company that has come up with its fair share of advancements in the field of robotics and drones like the SmartBird) does not offer an option for the latter. In fact, the eMotionButterflies, as you can see in the video above, happens to be an extremely light drone aircraft which will not only resemble a butterfly, it will also flit about like one, too.

All of which, I must say, is rather hypnotic to watch. Not only that, why have fun with just one eMotionButterfly, when you can unleash a fair number of those as an interconnected group? Light plastic wings are crucial to ensure that they can remain airborne, and each of these puppies will be controlled independently through a very small servo, letting the robot maneuver in the air without the need for any complicated fins or spinning blades.

Surely it lacks the finesse and precision of a quadrocopter, but you know for sure that is is a whole lot more elegant, to say the least. Apart from that, the compact hardware that controls the drone also helps make it what it is.
