LikeBoxWe’re sure that you’ve come across websites that feature the Facebook Like box which you can see in the screenshot above. This allows visitors to the website to like a person’s Facebook page quickly without actually having to head on over to Facebook itself. However it seems that Facebook has deemed the feature to be out of date and will be pulling the plug come 23rd of June. However instead of ceasing to exist or have the feature malfunction, it will be converted to the Facebook Page plugin instead.

Facebook has not made any official announcement, instead this was quietly announced in the developers’ documentation in which it reads, “With the release of Graph API v2.3, the like box plugin is deprecated and will stop working June 23. Use the new page plugin instead. The page plugin allows you to embed a simple feed of content from a page into your websites. The like box is a special version of the like button designed only for Facebook pages. It allows admins to promote their pages and embed a simple feed of content from a page into other sites.”

page pluginIn its place Facebook will be pushing the use of its Page plugin which you can see in the image above. We’re not sure how different both plugins are, seeing as they both offer similar features. However in the case of the Page plugin, it comes with a Share button and it will also be able to display the cover photo of that particular Facebook page, making it look more attractive which we suppose is a good thing.
