When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge last year it also launched a virtual reality headset called Gear VR. The headset uses the smartphone’s display to provide a virtual reality experience. In March when the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were announced Samsung confirmed that an updated version of the Gear VR headset is going to be released for these two flagships. Starting tomorrow you can pre-order one.
Samsung has announced that the Gear VR headset for Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow from Best Buy. Interested customers will be able to purchase a unit online from Best Buy or Samsung come May 8th.
Those who would rather walk into a brick-and-mortar store to purchase the Gear VR will have to wait until May 15th because that’s when Best Buy stores across the country will start selling the Gear VR for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
Don’t even think about using your existing headset with these new smartphones, it won’t work. You will most certainly have to purchase one if you are thinking about enjoying VR experiences with Samsung’s new flagships.
Samsung’s announcement today is mum on the price, but since the original headset cost $200, it’s unlikely that it’ll be more than that.
