gits-2016Ghost In The Shell is practically an institution when it comes to the world of manga, and while we do not mind seeing a remake of a real life action film, certain elements will need to be done in the proper manner. Dreamworks are going to feature Scarlett Johansson as the lead actress in the upcoming movie, despite facing disapproval from the general fan base in addition to receiving petitions not to go ahead with their choice of actress. Still, we have received word that filming will kick off some time in the beginning of 2016.

Other details concerning this film would be Rupert Sanders being the director, and the script will be done by a certain William Wheeler. Not only that, the production side of things will be handled by Avi Arad. Does this particular creative team actually fill you with confidence that it will do well? Perhaps, or perhaps not, but it does seem as though Hollywood, generally speaking, has not quite yet managed to figure out how to work with anime and manga related properties in the right manner.

For starters, casting Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi, who is the main character in the series, comes across as a rather strange choice since the character’s origins happen to be Asian in the first place, while there are other actresses who would be better suited for such a part.
