App Store and Google Play

Southeast Asia is another booming smartphone market and a research has revealed that Google Play Store is the most preferred app download platform in the region.

The study was conducted by a research firm App Annie, and the research reveals that in Southeast Asia region Android seems to be winning over iOS. The region has more Android users and hence, it has recorded much more download from the Google Play than the Apple App Store (almost four times over). According to the firm, the top ranking app category in Southeast Asia is Games, and it is projecting bumper growth, there is a 45 percent of increase every year.

The research firm NewZoo says that Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, can be the next big avenues for the mobile game market, that could gross $30 billion this year. However, in terms of monetization, iOS is performing better as has got more revenues (1.3 percent more) than Google in the year 2014. Malaysia is the only country where Google Play has received higher revenues.

Revenues for mobile gaming are better than number of app downloads in the Southeast region, almost twice than the numbers last year. Vietnam and Malaysia have registered top growth rate of 150 percent and 115 percent, respectively in the previous years, says App Annie. There is more scope for better results, even though there is rapid growth in the region, but the generated revenue is barely 25 percent of South Korea’s total game revenue. South Korea’s complete app store revenues constitutes 90 percent of mobile gaming while Southeast Asian markets displayed almost 50 percent in the same arena.

Interestingly, Indonesia has recorded higher number ( nine times) of Google Play downloads. The download total is almost up by 50 percent in Indonesia, which is three times of world’s largest markets, South Korea. According to App Annie, Indonesia has almost 90 percent of South Korea’s in December 2014 and Vietnam increased by 95 percent in last year. Due to the increasing smartphone import in the region, more avenues have been opened up for affordable, accessible gaming for smartphone users. Android has a big leap over iOS because of its better pricing and accessibility, as per the research firm App Annie.
