It has been quite some time since HTC released a device powered by Windows Phone but the company has stuck by Microsoft’s mobile platform even while other major OEMs have decided to pass on it. The company has confirmed that it is “working closely” with Microsoft as Windows 10 for Phones starts to take shape, it expects to have more information to share about a new Windows 10 handset later this year.

The company today launched the HTC One M9 Plus in India. At the event in New Delhi HTC’s president of global sales and chief financial officer Chia-Lin Chang was asked whether the company plans on releasing a Windows Phone powered version of the HTC One M9 Plus.

Chang didn’t confirm whether or not this would happen, but mentioned that HTC is working closely with Microsoft as the company gears up to release Windows 10 this summer. Chang said that HTC will share more information about its next Windows powered smartphone by the second quarter’s end or the start of the third quarter this year.

It remains to be seen if the next Windows powered handset from HTC will be a flagship device capable to take on its Android and iOS powered rivals, or if HTC decides to play it safe and release a mid-range device, that too in limited markets.
