Since last year it has been consistently rumored that Apple is working on a larger iPad, the tablet is now commonly referred to as the iPad Pro. So far Apple has not confirmed or denied the existence of such a product so it remains to be seen if the iPad Pro ever materializes. A new report suggests that display panel manufacturers have increased IGZO capacity since Apple is expected to go with these panels for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

If the report out of South Korea is to be believed then Apple will select three suppliers for IGZO display panels that it needs for the iPad Pro. LG Display, Samsung and Sharp will reportedly provide the panels.

This isn’t the first time that we have heard about Apple possibly moving to IGZO displays but the company is currently invested quite heavily into LTPS display technology, the one you find in existing iPhones and iPads.

Since Apple doesn’t talk much about its supply chain and component sourcing its unlikely that the company itself will clear up if and when it will decide to make the switch to IGZO displays.

It was first believed that the iPad Pro would be unveiled earlier this year but the March event went by without the announcement of a new tablet. Word on the street is that the 12.9-inch tablet could possibly be announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference 2015 due in June.
