There hasn’t been much activity in the jailbreak arena recently but some people are still working on cracking Apple’s mobile platform. Apple recently started seeding the first beta of iOS 8.4 and someone has already jailbroken it. The iOS 8.4 jailbreak has been demonstrated on video by famed iOS hacker Stefan Esser who is more commonly known by his Twitter handle, @i0n1c.

Esser hasn’t publicly released a jailbreak since iOS 4.3.1 which came out a few years back but since then he has demonstrated several jailbreaks for newer versions of the software.

He has posted the proof of concept iOS 8.4 jailbreak video on YouTube which shows off a tethered jailbreak. He hasn’t come up with an untether as yet because according to him “something is broken.”

Esser achieved this jailbreak by exploiting a vulnerability inside the code. It’s possible that Apple might patch the vulnerability before iOS 8.4 to the public which will render this jailbreak useless.

Since it’s unclear right now when Apple intends to release iOS 8.4 to the public it can’t be said for sure when this jailbreak will arrive. It should be kept in mind that Esser hasn’t publicly released a jailbreak in a long time so even if he has publicly demonstrated an iOS 8.4 jailbreak it’s still very much up to him to decide whether or not he’s going to release it.
