As we all know Android Wear 5.1 brings Wi-Fi support to compatible smartwatches, but there have been many assumptions about which devices wii have it first. Sadly, LG just confirmed that the G Watch will not receive the Wi-Fi feature even when the new update is rolled out in the few weeks.

Motorola and Sony have affirmed that Moto 360 and Sony SmartWatch 3 will support the Wi-Fi feature as soon as they receive the Android Wear 5.1 update. The Asus ZenWatch also has the requisite inbuilt Wi-Fi support. Only the LG G Watch will be left behind in terms of Wi-Fi support.

LG G Watch is the only smartwatch out there which won’t support the Wi-Fi feature due to shortfall of requisite hardware. The company did mentioned that the G Watch R and the Watch Urbane come with the required hardware.

However the Samsung Gear Live that was announced with the LG G Watch in 2014 had an built-in Wi-Fi chip as revealed by teardowns. So it’s likely that this update will switch on Wi-Fi support for that smartwatch as well.

Having said that, the LG G Watch will still get the new app-drawer, contacts, emojis and some other features that are included in the update.
