It has long been rumored that LG is developing a new Windows Phone smartphone. We have heard nothing yet officially from the company on this matter but recently a render did appear online claiming to show the WP that LG has built, apparently it will be an exclusive to Verizon in the United States. Today evidence has surfaced from LG’s own website which hints at the possibility that this actually might happen in the near future.

A listing on LG’s official website for documentation of open-source licenses points towards the LG VW820 model number accompanied by a LG VW820SS variant, branded as “Windows phone.”

It’s clear from the model number itself that this handset is intended for Verizon Wireless, but it remains to be seen if LG will release it in other markets, or even on other carriers in the United States after exclusivity at Verizon ends.

There is no word as yet regarding the specifications of this device so it can’t really be said for sure whether its a high-end flagship or merely a mid-range handset. It’s said to have LTE support though, but it’s not like that can’t be found on mid-range devices these days.

LG and Verizon are yet to confirm if a new Windows Phone device is on the cards. Presumably it may be the first device to come with Windows 10 for Phones pre-installed, but we’ll just have to wait and see if that really happens.
