We’re not sure how many of you guys remember MS-DOS from back in the day, but if you do, you might be interested to learn that Microsoft has launched MS-DOS mobile which they’re hoping will become an alternative to the Windows Phone platform. Before you start freaking out, we’re kidding, although Microsoft has indeed launched a MS-DOS app for its Windows Phone platform.

This is probably one of the more elaborate April Fool’s pranks we’ve seen and for the most part it looks like the app really does work like MS-DOS. Users will be able to navigate the app by typing in familiar MS-DOS commands such as “dir” and “cd” to find their way around the app. There’s even a “camera.exe” file in the app that let’s users launch the camera to take a ASCII or CGA selfie.

For those looking to play some games, Microsoft added a Rock Paper Scissors game that takes you back to the good old days, and typing in “WIN” will also preview the glory days that was Windows 3.1. It’s a pretty hilarious and fun app and if you’d like to take it for a spin, you can do so by heading on over to the Windows Phone Store for the download. Unfortunately it looks like iOS and Android users will not be getting in on the fun.
