rockband-4-ps4-xbox-oneA few days ago, Activision announced Guitar Hero Live, and along with the news they confirmed that the older instruments would not play nicely with the new game due to the change in controls. No doubt this is disappointing and it would seem like a waste, but the good news is that in an interview with Business Insider, Rock Band 4’s project director Daniel Sussman revealed that Guitar Hero instruments would play nicely with their upcoming game.

Yes, we do know that both games are similar in nature and are competitors of one another, but Sussman states that he does not want gamers to spend more than they should, especially if they had the hardware already. “Our position is really all about respect for our consumers and for the money that they have spent to get into the game space in the first place. They spend a fortune on games: on consoles, on hardware, and we’re sensitive to that.”

Sussman adds, “We play those games too. We buy all the same stuff. A world where you need to have three different guitars and two drum sets and all this stuff is…we don’t want to support that world.” Rock Band 4 was confirmed last month and that it would be arriving by the end of the year where it will play nicely with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

As for the new instruments Activision announced for Guitar Hero Live, Sussman is unclear as to whether they will play nicely with Rock Band 4, but he has not ruled out the possibility yet and will need to get his hands on the new peripherals before they can confirm.
