Yesterday a report out of Shanghai, China claimed that Samsung had paid as many as 500 people to attend its launch event for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in the People’s Republic. Since there were about 1,000 people at the event that would have meant that half of all attendees were paid for by Samsung. The company didn’t immediately comment on the report but today it issued a statement and said that the reports about it paying people in China to attend a launch event are completely false.

The report claimed that people who were paid to attend the event were said to act like they were Samsung fans and that they attended the event because of genuine interest in the new flagship smartphones.

In a statement issued today Samsung says that it’s findings indicate that “under no circumstances” was anyone hired to given money to attend the Galaxy S6 launch event. On the contrary, all of the 1,100 consumers and industry officials that attended the event at the Shanghai Culture Square were actually formally invited by the company itself.

Based on its investigations after the report was published the company confidently says that rumors about people paying to attend the Galaxy S6 launch event in China are “totally groundless and bogus.”
