The other day we reported on a video uploaded by SquareTrade which showed off the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge being bent by a machine. The idea was to see how much pressure the device could take compared to other devices like the iPhone 6 Plus and the HTC One M9. As it turns out the Galaxy S6 Edge bent at the same amount of force as the iPhone 6 Plus, but it broke at a lower threshold.
That being said it seems that Samsung did not take too kindly to the testing method used by SquareTrade and has since issued a statement on the matter, along with videos of their own testing method and descriptions of how the company goes about testing their phones. For starters Samsung points out that the amount of force needed to bend the phones are not realistic under normal circumstances.
The company claims that under normal circumstances, the amount of force exerted is around 30kgf putting it below the 50kgf level exerted by the machines. The company also points out that different phones have parts of it that might be stronger, and that SquareTrade’s test was not fair as the company had only tested the front.
Samsung has since requested that SquareTrade conduct their test again, this time covering both the front and the back, but in the meantime they have also released a video which shows the 3-point bend test that they have carried out themselves internally.
