Over in Japan, given how big their anime/manga culture is, there have been instances where a particular brand that is popular enough where it has been given its own plane. For example there exists the Hello Kitty plane and there is even a Pokemon-themed plane, and now the folks at Japan airline ANA have announced their latest creation – an R2-D2 themed plane.

This plane has yet to be launched but according to the company, it should be making its way into the airline’s international routes starting this fall. It will be part of a five-year Star Wars Project in which we can only assume that the airline company will introduce more Star Wars themed planes into their mix. The plane in question is that of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

This hardly seems like a coincidence. After all the first Star Wars movie which will be part of a new installment will be released at the end of the year. Recently we’ve also started to see more Star Wars-related news making its rounds on the internet, and let’s not forget the second Star Wars teaser was recently released, much to the delight of fans around the world.

Now we’re not sure just yet on how one will be able to get a ride on this R2-D2 plane, but in the meantime what other Star Wars-themed planes would you like to see introduced? The Millennium Falcon, or maybe the famed X-wing Starfighter jets, or dare we hope, an ominous-looking Death Star?
