starbucksIf you thought that Starbucks’ drinks were always a tad expensive, then today would have been a great day to capitalize on the company’s network outage. It seems that due to the systems going down, the coffee chain’s point-of-sales system was affected as well which forced the company to give away free drinks.

It was initially thought that it was a localized issue but it turns out that not only did it affect Starbucks outlets nationwide, but it even affected outlets all the way in Canada. Safe to say that patrons are pretty pleased with the situation, although those who bought their drinks right before the system went down are probably a little miffed they missed out on the freebie.

In the initial statement released by Starbucks it read, “We are actively working to resolve the outage and our stores will remain open and continue to serve our customers.  The outage was caused by a failure during a daily system refresh.” However an edit to that statement later changed “our stores will remain open” to “our stores that have not already closed for the evening are closing early.”

So if you’re looking to “cash in” on the situation, you’d best hurry before they close for the day! That being said we guess it’s nice of Starbucks to give away freebies when they could have easily just shuttered all their stores.
