As if the cost of studying wasn’t high enough, there are other expenses that one has to pay such as food, bills, books, entertainment, and let’s not forget rent. Sometimes rent can be the second biggest expense which is why in a bid to encourage more women to pick up computer science as an area of study, a mobile marketing analytics startup by the name of Tune is providing free accommodation to women who have chosen computer science as their field of study.This will no doubt help women interested in computer science but might not have the necessary funds to do so, so by alleviating monetary concerns such as rent, Tune hopes that it will encourage more women to enter the field. At the moment this “offer” is only extended to those attending the University of Washington, and right now the home that Tune is renting has only 8 bedrooms, meaning that there are only so many spots available for interested candidates.
Tune will also be covering costs such as groceries and will also provide students a MacBook each for the entire school year starting September 20th 2015 through till June 30th 2015. Speaking to GeekWire, Tune’s CEO Peter Hamilton said, “It’s clear that our company’s development and momentum is directly correlated to the strength of the Seattle community and the amazing talent that has been flourishing here. With that in mind, we want to be innovative with how we support and engage the community.”
