The LCD screen on our cameras are pretty small. For the most part they’re around the 3-inch mark which means that compared to smartphones, they’re tiny. Now there are some cameras with WiFi and accompanying apps that allows the user to use their phones remotely and to double up as an external display, but holding your phone and camera at the same time is a bit precarious.

camlet_1This is where the Camlet Mount comes into play. The Camlet Mount is a Kickstarter project for a device that can slide into the hotshoe component of your camera. From there users will be able to attach either a tablet or a smartphone into the mount, thus providing them with a secondary display that will be much larger than the default one. The Camlet Mount can also be adjusted up or down, so in some situations you could even make your tablet/smartphone your primary display.

camlet_2The mount can be adjusted in many ways so you could also technically position it in such a way where you could use it as a “mirror” to take selfies with. It might also come in handy for YouTubers who want to be able to see themselves while recording and might not have a camera whose display can flip to the other side. Photographers will no doubt love the ability to see their photos in a larger display before shooting to check if everything is in focus.

camlet_3Now the good news is that the Camlet Mount will not require the photographer’s camera to be WiFi-enabled. Of course having WiFi would be good, but it will work with non-WiFi cameras by connecting either via a WiFi memory card or via a cable. It’s a very clever idea and a very handy device. If you’d like to learn more or pledge your support, you can head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details. Its creators are aiming for the first batch to be released in November this year assuming everything goes well.
